New Forum

Handling support and enhancement of Lazy-K Gallery using the commenting features of WordPress was a getting a little difficult. I had a few suggestions to set up a forum, so thought I’d give it a shot. I’m not totally sold on the implementation just yet, but take a look and let me know if you have any suggestions.

Version 1.3.4 – Improved Lightbox and Thickbox support

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

Ok, I’ve got some new changes to share. First of all, the boring stuff. I put in some code to remove the extra paragraph tags that WordPress adds, so the gallery page should now validate as XHTML! I also added the ability to remove underscores in filenames.

The big thing I added is support for the Thickbox image viewer and a number of new ways to use Lightbox. See the FAQ page to see where to download these add-ons from. After you download and set up the one you want, visit the Lazy-K Gallery options page. You’ll notice that there are two new combo boxes in the Advanced Options section. There are a lot of options, so give them a try to see what you like. Of course, you can always just leave them alone and not use an external image-viewer. Here are the navigation options:

When the user clicks on a thumbnail…

  • show the regular slide page
  • show the full-size image in a new window
  • don’t do anything
  • show the slide using Lightbox
  • show the whole series of slides using Lightbox
  • show the full-size image using Lightbox
  • show the whole series of full-size images using Lightbox
  • show the slide using Thickbox
  • show the full-size image using Thickbox

When the user clicks on a slide…

  • show the full-size image in a new window
  • don’t do anything
  • show the full-size image using Lightbox
  • show the full-size image using Thickbox

Download the latest version of Lazy-K Gallery and let me know what you think. There are a lot of choices for the image-viewing add-ons, so let me know if you come up with any problems.

What Lightbox/Thickbox plugins do you use?

Tuesday, September 19th, 2006

I’ve been trying to improve Lazy-K Gallery’s support for different image-viewing plugins like Lightbox and Thickbox. There seem to be a plethora of downloads around calling themselves lightbox and thickbox, so it’s been a little frustrating. On top of the true “plugin” versions of these scripts there are also the original Javascript snippets you can include.

My goal is to support these scripts from both the thumbnail and slide views. You’ll have the option to click on the slide to view the full-size image in either plugin, or click on a thumbnail to view the full-size image in one of those plugins. Likewise, I’m providing the ability to click on a thumbnail and let lightbox or thickbox display the whole set of images.

So, before I spend too much time working through all the little quirks associated with each possibility, I’d like to conduct a little poll. What image viewing script do you like to use? Please comment with the name of the script and where it can be found.

Thanks!

Version 1.3.3 bug fixes released

Friday, September 8th, 2006

I had a couple of errors to fix, so I’m releasing version 1.3.3. I improved the cache manager’s logging and error handling, and fixed a problem with sorting the slides (the next and prev links weren’t correct in some cases).

You can download the latest version from the Lazy-K Gallery page.

Version 1.3.2 available

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

Hey all-

I found a little bit of time to work on the plugin tonight, so I fixed a couple of little bugs and added the option to use cropped square thumbnails. In other words, if you have a 800×600 image and you want cropped square thumbnails, the plugin will crop 100 pixels off the left and right before creating the thumbnail. Some folks prefer that look, and I’m using in the example gallery.

Give it a shot if you’d like. You can download from the Lazy-K Gallery page. If you enable the square thumbnails option, don’t forget to visit the cache manager to rebuild your thumbnails, just like you’d have to do any time you change the size of your thumbnails or slides. Let me know if you find any problems or have further suggestions!
