Planned Improvements

I’m considering the following improvements in a future version of Lazy-K Gallery:

  • Allow multiple galleries within one installation
  • Allowing editing of captions
  • Provide multiple ways of sorting files/folders

  • Provide a way to only allow comments on the photos, not the folders or root
  • Implement permalinks to pretty-up the gallery URL’s
  • Improve error handling in the event of a bad path, corrupted image, etc.
  • Show how many comments are on each picture
  • Show the photo name, etc. in the title bar
  • Slideshow capability
  • Find a better way to link to a specific photo from the comments admin panel
  • Add the ability to download different sized versions of the original photo (i.e. for desktop wallpaper)
  • Report whether the site’s comments.php looks compatible.
  • Split big folders into multiple pages
  • Read captions from the EXIF data in images

  • Correct problem caused when two commas are adjacent to each other in the “excluded files” setting

  1. hey,
i’d like to use your gallery, because in my opinion it’s the best and easiest one to use.
But when i upload images and go to the gallery site i get some alerts:

Warning: file_exists() [function.file-exists]: SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 10033 is not allowed to access /home/www/htdocs/ owned by uid 30 in /home/www/htdocs/ on line 404

Can you help me fixing that “bug?”, because it doesen’t look that nice on my homepage ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Thank you,
    yours Martin Schillinger

  2. Hey there,

I believe I like your gallery plugin from what I see so far.

The only thing I might ask for is: SLIDESHOW (!)

I’d reaaaaaly like to see slideshow in this – and it looks like it’d be a perfect plugin to me.

Let me know if you think this is possible please – and I’d be more than willing to help in any way (testing, etc.).

  3. Hey Martin,
have you tried chmod’ing your gallery folder? Alternatively you may have to get in touch with your host…

Now, my suggestion – As a workaround for both the PHP execution time limit and uneducated users – would it be possible to add an option to automatically resample an image down to a default specified resolution.

For example, I find on my host that resolutions larger than 800×600 tend to spit up errors, yet if I keep the resolutions to 800×600 – it’s all fine. And for my use, that’s an acceptable resolution. Unfortunately my users do not know this, and regardless of how many times I’ve trained them, they can not/will not resample their images before uploading them, which breaks the gallery. Every few days I go and manually resample and reupload their images and the gallery comes right again.

If you do add this feature – dont forget to build in total ignorance for resolutions lower than the baseline

    Cheers again dude

Hello again! I would like to suggest a way to have different size options available, such as for desktop pictures at 1024×768 or maybe a way to have text beneath the thumbnail such as:

know what I mean? right now it seems i’m limited to one size overall as per my settings in admin>options.

Thanks again for such a great plugin.

  5. Korey says:

Robert- That’s a pretty good idea. I think I’ll add that as an “advanced option” when I find the time. By the way, thanks for the recommending my plugin on the WordPress Support forums!

I have a problem with updated galleries! I uploaded photos and one was double – so I deleted it and uploaded another one (with same name, overwriting the wrong one). Now I thought the gallery would update, too. But I still have the old version of thumbnails and gallery view and I am NOT allowed to delete the tumbnails in the subfolders! How can I manage to delete photos if I want to?! Thanks for helping, your gallery -apart from that problem- is brilliant ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Korey says:

Nicole- Thanks for the good word. Have you tried deleting the thumbnail both using your FTP client and using the “Cache Manager” on the admin page? You also might try changing the permissions or owner on that thumbnail file using your FTP client (perhaps you’re not the “owner” on the thumbnail file).

If nothing else, leaving an old thumbnail in the thumbnail directory won’t really hurt anything. You could rename your photo – next time you view that folder it’ll build a new thumbnail.

Let us know how it goes.

  8. Nicole says:

I worked with 1.2 and it was apart from the thing mentioned above really fine. Because of your comment I tried to upgrade the plugin but if I leave it on the server I get fatal errors?!

Warning: main(lazy-k-gallery/lazy-k-gallery-image.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /www/htdocs/ariana/wp-content/plugins/lazy-k/lazy-k-gallery.php on line 56

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required ‘lazy-k-gallery/lazy-k-gallery-image.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/share/php:..’) in /www/htdocs/ariana/wp-content/plugins/lazy-k/lazy-k-gallery.php on line 56

Of course there IS such a file. If I leave it on the server, nothing works, no admin panel, no weblog. I did not find a reason for that so I – sorry – have to ask again…

  9. Nicole says:

Okay, forget this, my ยง”!$&ยง-FTP-Program has made an upload totally messed up. Now I will try to fix my “old” problem ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. Nicole says:

Sorry ๐Ÿ™ still having problems with 1.3 ๐Ÿ™ If I try to open my fotos, now the path is wrong (okay), so I tried to change the path but I can’t get access to the admin of the Lazy-K-Gallery. I get

File Not Found 404 (okay – it IS not there)

    If I try

I get “lazy-k-gallery.php kann nicht geladen werden.” on plain text

Hello this is a great program 100%! Keep up the awesome work. Simple to use and simple to install if you read the instructions and have an understanding of the basics. 777 Permission thoese folders and poof a new gallery appears! Simple clean and just works!

Now all we need is navigation and a close button in original image mode. Prev and Next on the top of the screen next to the pics in the same way as the mid size photos a displayed. Also in original size under the photo have an option to show the title above or below the photo. Above is better since the bottom may show off screen. If not resized to screen size.

Also, in original size have the backgroud of the window show black or an option to make it some color to match our themes.

    So my 3 wishes are:
    1. Simple Navigation in original large size window.
    2. Name of photo above the photo.
    3. Ability to change the background of the original large size photo window to match theme.

Thanks for the rocken awesome work and please make all my wishes come true ASAP! LOL

Anyway know a simple code hack to put navigation on the large screen window or change its color??? I dont like lightbox yet since it has glitches when being intergrated with this program..

  12. Korey says:

Thanks for the comments. All I do for the original size image view is just link to the actual image file. Folks requested the lightbox integration to do basically what you’re asking about. What kind of glitches are you experiencing? Where did you get your lightbox plugin from?

  13. kev says:

First of all, top piece of work this plugin.

    With regards to the Lightbox integration, I don’t get the ‘Previous’ and ‘Next’ arrows when viewing images in the Lightbox. I’ve tried editing the lazy-k-gallery.php, to make use of the rel=”lightbox[group set]” function,at around line 253;

changing rel=”lightbox” to rel=”lightbox[‘($lzk_currentdir)’]” And similar (my PHP is very poor) but it breaks the Gallery.

Is it possible or just my bad scripting?

  14. Korey says:

    Hey Kev-

That’s not the way I used lightbox in this plugin, but I’ve thought about making that an option as well. I haven’t studied the lightbox that much, but what you’re wanting to do should be possible. I’ll put that on my list of things to look at.

  15. Yotsume says:

I use this version “Lightbox Plugin 0.5 PLUS By Kjell Bublitz”. What is the latest version people have gotten to work with this gallery plug-in? This version does not have options to view next and prev in full screen. That I would love to have work. Anyone have that working with a version of Lightbox yet? If so where can I download that version?

  16. Korey says:

You can see in the FAQ ( which two I have tested against. If you find others, please share the URL so I can try them out.

  17. JFP says:

I want to know if it is possible to not have the Slide image, just the thumbnail and the full size Thanks.

If it is not possible, it could be a good feature. Thanks

  18. JFP says:

Kev I try to but without success. we will need a version that will not use the slide image to use the group in lightbox 2. because in slide mode there is only one image so no group.

  19. Pascal says:

I would like to know if a hack exist to pre-resize all image before to treat them. For simplicity (I try to minimize complexity for my familly ๐Ÿ˜‰ , I would like to be able to upload full res image and to put somewhere in options a max pixels value for large image : all image which are above will be resized automatically (original full res image are dropped)…

  20. Likely says:

Nice Plug-in, I just have one issue and that is it refreshes the whole page (is it supposed to do that ?) and as I have a random header plug-in it doesn’t look right.
